On 1st January 2025, Fr. Joseph Whelan PP and the parish of Killester hosted the annual Diocesan Peace Mass. The Mass celebrated by Archbishop Dermot Farrell marked the 58th World Day of Peace and the start of the Jubilee Year of Hope.

We were delighted to welcome President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina. A number of dignitaries also attended including Seán Fleming TD, Minister of State, and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and the Garda Síochána. Also in attendance were Papal Knights, the Order of Malta, Knights of the Holy Sepulchre and Knights of Columbanus.

Bishop Paul Dempsey noted in his homily that Pope Francis in his peace message this year reminded us that we all have our part to play in creating a peaceful world. Pope Francis “brings it right back to each one of us individually. He tells us that “a smile, a small gesture of friendship, a kind look, a ready ear, a good deed’. With such gestures, we progress towards the goal of peace”.

The music and singing were provided by Eileen Dwyer and our wonderful choir.

All those present at the Mass and online received a blessing with the relic of St. Brigid.

Afterwards parishioners and guests had an opportunity to mingle and enjoy refreshments in the Resource Centre.
